Proofing
Proofing is the process of reviewing a design proof. It can cover the copy, the layout, the color, the images and the production settings, and it usually ends with a client decision.
Why it matters
Proofing catches the errors that are cheap to fix before print and expensive after. It is also where the client and the studio agree on the final version.
Example
The studio proofs a 16-page brochure on screen, then orders a hard proof for the client to check the color and the paper.
